educate uganda

In the summer of 2018 I had a chance to travel half way around the world and visit the country of Uganda with a truly incredible nonprofit called Educate Uganda. This is their story.

Educate Uganda is a nonprofit whose mission is to help children in Uganda receive an education. Karen VanDyke founded the nonprofit 13 years ago after a mission trip to Uganda, where she learned that many children were unable to receive an education due to the lack of classrooms or school fees. Since then, Karen has worked tirelessly to help children attend school; she believes that the gift of an education is the key to end their cycle of extreme poverty. Since it was founded, Educate Uganda has ensured that approximately 1,500 students attend primary school each year and they currently have 277 students attending secondary school or vocational school.

This was an incredible experience for me. I photographed so many amazing children, shot a short documentary, and wrote a profile of Karen. Currently I am working on a short book, and new logo for their website.

It only costs $35 to send a child to school for a year and words don’t describe how rewarding that is. If you are interested in donating or learning more about Educate Uganda visit their site here.
